Do you dream of publishing your own ebook?

I know exactly how you feel! When I finally got my first e-book out for sale about a year ago, it was a dream come true.

However, it was not something that happened overnight. When I actually finished the ebook, it took me 2 weeks to finally release my ebook. I spend those two weeks doubting my work and delaying the release date.

Finally, one Saturday night, I got over my worries. The truth is that nothing was wrong with my business and it had gotten to the point where I thought something had to happen! The ebook was released and I made $743 in sales.

$743 doesn’t seem like a fortune, I know, but for me that final number was a huge win. I released my first e-book for the starting price of just $5 and, if we deduct business fees, managed to sell over 150 copies. That means the eBook has been downloaded and hopefully read by over 150 people.

If I had made the proper considerations before starting to write, the process would have been much easier.

For me, the main goal was of course to earn some money with the knowledge I had on the specific topic and my bet is that this is also a great motivation for you.

The great thing about writing eBooks is that it allows you to do exactly that while providing great information that will really help your customers!

Therefore, you must make all this happen as soon as possible. The longer you take to act after you’ve made the decision to write the eBook, the less likely it is that other people will have the opportunity to reap the benefits of your experience and knowledge.

This is why you need to plan the process from the beginning. There are 3 things you need to consider from the start!

  1. Message
  2. Target audiences
  3. Structure

You need to create an outline of these 3 things before you start writing your eBook!

This will help keep you on the right track from the start.

So start by defining a clear message for your e-book. What do you want to share with your customers? You have to be very clear about this to avoid possible confusion.

What is your target audience? Yes! It makes a world of difference whether you’re targeting the pre-teen Pokémon crowd or the middle-aged pet care market.

In my experience, you get the best results if you define a rigid structure for your ebook before you start writing it. I will go so far in defining the structure of my ebook that most of the time all I have to do is fill in the blanks!
