Easy Viewing of ID Badges – Lanyard Alternatives

Lanyards are a popular option for displaying identification badges. However, there are times when they can catch on objects or interfere with mobility. Safety releases can make this less of a hassle, but simply avoiding tangles in the first place is a good idea. Some people are also uncomfortable wearing something around their neck. For others, opting for another ID card presentation method is simply a matter of taste. Some activities such as sports naturally lend themselves to other types of accessories. Here is a brief description of various lacing alternatives.

Coil or band wristbands

Plastic wristbands keep key cards and keys close at hand. The expandable variety fits comfortably on the wrist and can be stretched like a telephone cord. After each use, it rolls back to its original length, keeping you out of the way. These can be purchased in clear plastic for an understated look, or in a variety of colors to make the coil easy to locate. Elastic bands can also be worn on the wrist, but they do not offer the same reach and flexibility as a coil. These can be fitted with a nickel plated metal swivel hook to hold a perforated plate. They fit comfortably around the wrist and are not likely to slip accidentally.

Belt clips

Carabiner badge reels can be attached directly to a belt. They feature a retractable line that holds ID cards close to the waist when not in use. These are favorites for contractors and other employees who may be exposed to several different work environments over the course of a day. Chrome is a popular choice for heavy use and plastic badge reels are perfect for water sports.

Bangles

For a truly hands-free approach to badge viewing, you can’t beat the armband / badge holder combo. These horizontal or vertical stands can be purchased in bright neon orange or yellow. Reflective safety patches make these accessories highly visible, even in low light conditions. Armbands are generally one size fits all and can be adjusted to fit the wearer. These bands are worn on the upper arm (near the armpit), so choose antimicrobial materials to aid hygiene. Construction and emergency workers frequently use this type of accessory, as the badge holders are easy to spot from a distance and will not accidentally fall off.

Luggage Badge Holders

Identification cards can also be attached to luggage for tracking purposes. Obviously, you don’t want to submit your keycard on its own to get lost, but a simple photo ID with your name and picture will work just fine. These badge holders are also sized for business cards. Plastic IDs must be slotted for use with this type of rigid plastic or semi-rigid vinyl backing. A luggage chain accessory is another option for holding punch cards.

Retaining cords

These card holders come in a variety of styles. They can have the same type of accessory at each end or two different accessories. Popular options include expandable nylon reels with a split ring on one end and a plastic J-hook on the other to hold casino cards. The woven nylon lanyards can be outfitted with swivel hooks, smooth loops, and / or dog clips to hold a variety of items, including ID cards.
