Despite not being known as a traditional golf location, in recent times the Middle East has come into the spotlight for the sport due to the development of a number of world-class golf courses. The Doha Golf Club is an example of this. It hosts the Qatar Masters Tournament every year.

Although the immaculately manicured greens and lush fairways aren’t what you’d expect to find in the middle of the desert, the Doha Gold Club is a welcome exception. This eighteen hole, par 72 golf course is technically challenging and aesthetically pleasing to the player. The flora found on the course reflects the surrounding environment, with cacti and hand-crafted rock formations placed throughout to add beauty.

Designed by famed golf course architect Peter Harradine, the course features a floodlit nine-hole driving range, meaning busy executives can iron out swing flaws after a busy day at work. The restaurant, clubhouse, and pro shop are well-maintained, and the staff is attentive and courteous.

The Qatar Masters tournament, held annually as part of the European Golf Tour, has attracted many famous players, such as the South African Ernie Els, who participated in 2007. The tournament attracts many golfers each year, each of whom compete for an attractive prize of 2.5 million US dollars.

The Doha Golf Club has a large number of expatriate members, as the sport has yet to catch on with the locals. For tourists here on vacation, the Doha Golf Club offers the opportunity to break the routine and play a challenging 18-hole course.
