How to build a fish tank

The Making Of A Fishbowl.

Materials
Five glass panels (front, back, left, right and bottom panel)
Silicone sealant (100% silicone, non-toxic)
Silicon carbide sandpaper or Emory cloth
Acetone
Paper towels
Scotch tape
Washable felt-tip marker

Step 1
Determine how big the fish tank will be. What are length, height and width? This is important because it will influence the thickness and size of the glass to be used. If the glass is too thick, the financial cost will be high. On the other hand, the glass can break or the fish tank can explode if the glass used is too thin.

Step 2
Once the size of the fish tank is determined, place an order with the glass cutter. A total of five glass panels are needed. One panel is for the base or bottom of the fish tank. Two equal size panels are for the front and back. Two other panels of equal size are for the right and left side.

Step 3
Once the panels are cut, sand the edges with silicon carbide sandpaper or Emory cloth. Make sure the edges of each panel are smooth and flat, as the edges are where each panel will be attached. Once the edges are smooth and flat, wipe them clean with an acetone-dampened paper towel.

Stage 4
Lay out the five panels and label each panel accordingly (Bottom, Front, Back, Right, Left) using the washable marker. Also, label which side of the panels is in and out of the fish tank.

step 5
Cut four strips of masking tape that are four to six inches long. Glue these strips in the corners under the designated panel on the bottom of the tank. Half of the strip should stick out. These strips will serve as bracing like each panel.

step 6
Determine which edge of the bottom panel is the front. Apply a bead of caulk along the entire length of this edge. Take the front glass panel and press down on the sealant. The front and bottom panels must have a 90% angle. Do not spread excess sealant. Secure the two panels with the duck tape that was adhered earlier.

step 7
Apply a bead of caulk to the edge of the bottom panel where the right panel will be attached. Apply a bead of sealant to the edge of the front panel where it meets the edge of the right panel. Take the right panel and press firmly into the sealant. Secure with duck tape.

step 8
Repeat these steps for the rear panel and the left panel.

step 9
Once all the sides have been installed, apply a bead of caulk to the inside of the tank where the corners meet.

step 10
Let the sealer dry for 24 hours. After this period, slowly fill the tank with water. Watch for another 24 hours for water leaks.
