Your future determines your present (How your vision for tomorrow affects your happiness today)

“How your vision of tomorrow affects your happiness today”

You’re sitting quietly in your corporate cubicle that today looks not much bigger than a postage stamp; its only light is a fluorescent that is flickering to “burn out”, just like you are. The pile of paperwork piled high on top of your “entrance” basket would make your desk bend if it weren’t one of those old metal desks that weigh just under a ton.

Earlier in the day, your boss emailed you a pithy note about a project gone awry and, though you played only a small role in the process, chose you as a scapegoat, so your image won’t be tarnished by senior management.

To make matters worse, just moments later, he walks past your cubicle with a smile, pats you on the back, and wishes you a happy day, confirming your suspicion that he does, in fact, have multiple personality disorder. .

You decide to go for a cup of coffee but two things put you off, first, the coffee in the pot looks and smells like it was made last week, second, all the cups are dirty and piled up in the sink. . and there is nothing to wash them with.

Your need for caffeine is intense enough that you rinse and hand wash a cup, pour yourself some black mud, and just as you turn to head back to your desk, mid-sip, the one with the brown nose two cubes up, he’s flirting. with the receptionist, she bumps into you splashing coffee on your new white shirt. He feels bad and goes, “Oh super sorry,” and ends with, “Good thing I didn’t wear anything, this is a new shirt.”

You do your best to rinse off the coffee stains, pour the rest back into your mug, and head back to your caffeine-deprived desk.

You sit down and notice that, despite all the horror of this day, you are smiling.

Hit that, you’re giddy with happiness.

Because?

Because it’s Thursday and in just 24 hours you will have officially started your vacation in which for 2 weeks you will do little more than lie in the sun, drink those happy drinks with little umbrellas, eat the food that others prepare for you, walk on the beach, go to sleep and wake up when you want, read and spend time with the person you love.

You are currently in cubical hell, but nothing can kill the emotional buzz your upcoming vacation brings.

Because your immediate future is determining your current state of mind.

The opposite also is true

It’s the last day of your vacation; you’re working on the finishing touches on the tan you’ve put together so carefully (with the help of the sun). Dirty martini in hand, a warm breeze caresses your skin and the love of your life breathes softly as he sleeps soundly on the sand next to you.

But you feel stressed, your chest feels tight, your mind reels with thoughts of deadlines and pending tasks at work… And why?

Because in less than 24 hours you will be back in that dank cubicle with the flickering light and the pile of unfinished work that has undoubtedly grown in your absence and although you are physically in heaven, your mind is in hell.

Because your vision of tomorrow is affecting your happiness today.
